10 Social Media Tasks I can Take Off Your Hands

Hopefully you read my last blog about why it’s important to hire a Social Media Manager, (if you missed it, read it here) so I wanted to follow up with a list of 10 things I can take off your hands as your Social Media Manager. I hope that you’re already doing most, if not all of these things yourself, and you’re probably on my website because you’ve realized that you need a Social Media Manager. Lucky for you, here I am.   1. Create eye-catching and engaging content10 Social Media tasks I can take off your hands
    1. It takes time to find relevant and interesting things to post on social media. We all have that page we follow (and then usually unfollow) who posts things that just don’t make sense to their brand, or don’t make sense at all! It’s important to have a clear voice for your brand not only through your products or services, but also through the things you post! This includes, font choices, articles shared from other sources, stock photos chosen, current events that are talked about, and a whole lot more!
  2. Create simple graphics that match your brand
    1. Getting the creative juices flowing to make things like this can be hard! I have been making simple graphics and adding logos and text to images for a while and these are super helpful to have on hand when you’re running low on unique content to post.
  3. Look for free stock photos
    1. Stock photos are another great resource to have when content runs low. But stock photos still need to match your brand. I have a list of websites that I use to access many free stock photos.
    2. There are also photographers who offer custom-made branded stock photos that I can connect you with!
  4. Connect with potential clients, followers and influencers
    1. Connecting with people is the whole point of social media! So as a Social Media Manager I dedicate 1-4 hours a week connecting with people who follow your page, people who are potential clients, plus influencers and other businesses to form beneficial relationships for your brand!
    2. Engagement is huge (& so beneficial!) on social media and especially on Instagram.   5. Search for hashtags that are relevant to your account
    1. There are a lot of factors that need to be considered before using hashtags. A couple of them are, how often do I use this hashtag? What other accounts are using this hashtag? Is this a hashtag that my followers or potential clients are searching? Is this hashtag shadow banned? How many other posts does this hashtag have? Does this hashtag mean something else?
    2. An example of needing to do your research before using a trending hashtag – back in 2011 when Casey Anthony was found not guilty of murder and manslaughter, Entenmann’s tweeted this… IMG_9810This hashtags was in reference to the Casey Anthony case and they tweeted about their brand using this hashtag, without doing the research first! As you can imagine, they had some damage control to do.
  6. Create a social media calendar
    1. It’s important to have a plan in place each month but also to adjust that plan when needed. Trends and events that are featured on social media change daily, so it’s important to stay up to date but also have your social media copy be up to date.
  7. Handle reputation managementreviews1
    1. Reputation management is such an important aspect of social media because disgruntled customers rarely send a private message to share their complaints, they post a public review. With close to 3 years of experience in reputation management, this is something I proudly excel in. I take pride in quickly and effectively dissolving customer disputes and encourage business owners to learn from each one of them. Responding to positive reviews is also so important for businesses!
  8. Create a list of conversation starters
    1. Engagement is one of the main things that sets apart well performing posts and posts that aren’t seen by anyone. Did you know that the Instagram algorithm decides if a post is worth showing to people in the 1st 10 minutes after it’s posted? It takes into consideration how many people have liked and commented on a post in those 1st 10 minutes and then it will either be shown to more people if there’s a high amount of engagement, or it won’t even been shown to your followers if it doesn’t perform well. And on Facebook, a reaction is valued more than a like! Comments are great but when people comment back and forth with each other that helps the post perform even better. So having content that is not only engaging, but that starts conversations is so important!
  9. Keeping track of the ever-changing algorithms
    1. If there’s one thing I can guarantee, it’s that social media will never stop changing. And learning the new dos and don’ts of each platform when the next algorithm is released can take a lot of time. Luckily, when you hire me as your social media manager, you’ll now have someone on your team who specializes in keeping your content in-line with the new “laws” of social media.
  10. Analyze analyticsanalytics
    1. Looking at analytics frequently can be the best thing to happen to your social media accounts. It’s where I can easily learn what’s working well, and what is only harming your presence on social media.

Why is it important to hire a Social Media Manager?

There are a few other things that I wanted to name this blog…

Like, “The difference between managing your business’ social media and having a Social Media Manager.” But that’s a little long, right?

Or how about this one, “Just because someone is posting on social media as your business doesn’t mean you have a Social Media Manager.” But that’s a little more snobby than I can handle.

But it’s true isn’t it? There are major differences between posting on social media, and managing it. Social Media Managers do a lot more than just post and answer comments.

We learn, we strategize, we adapt.

We learn. We learn about your business, your product, your team. We learn who your customers are. What are their interests, why do they buy or service with YOU, their wants and needs. What time of they day they’re online, what platforms they’re on the most, what kind of content do they want to see from you. Do they prefer to see offers and sales? Educational information? Behind the scenes posts? Do they only want to learn about your product/service or do they want to know more about you and your employees? Videos, blogs, photos, or something else? All of the above?

There’s a lot that goes into knowing who your ideal client is. And as a business owner, you know that better than anyone! But, a Social Media Manager knows how to reach those clients online.

We strategize. Taking all of the things I mentioned above, and even more, into consideration when posting online is great. But it will do you little to no good if you don’t have a plan. A Social Media Manager will have a clear and concise strategy made for your business. Not only is the plan important but we research hashtags in your niche and use them wisely. We post at the times that you’ll receive the most reach and engagement. We recognize shifting trends with colors, images, graphics, new platforms, etc. adjust and use them to your brand’s advantage.

We adapt. Social media is consistently evolving and changing. A good Social Media Manager will be watching for those changes and adapting their strategy to flow. Change isn’t always fun, but it’s inevitable. You just deal with it.

The algorithms on Facebook and Instagram especially, are every business’ worst nightmare. And they change often. It’s like as soon as you finally felt comfortable with the last algorithm changes, Mark Zuckerburg shows up on your newsfeed to announce even more changes.

Social Media Tips

Content – Quality Over Quantity

Sometimes I like to think about the things I post on social media being similar to an actual conversation between people talking face to face. There are do’s and don’ts for both. And surprisingly, they aren’t as different as you’d think.

If you were to go over to your friends house and you didn’t stop talking about yourself the whole time, they probably wouldn’t invite you back over. It’s the same with posting on social media. If you keep posting over and over, with no interaction with your followers, and never try to get to know them, their likes, their dislikes, or what they like to do for fun, they’re going to unfollow you real quick.

So here are some quick do’s and don’ts to ensure that doesn’t happen.

  • Each post should have a clear and concise message.
    • Share an update about your business. What have you been working on? What do you have planned for the future?
    • Are you releasing a new product or service soon? Give a sneak peek!
    • Did you do something amazing to add more value to your business? Share that amazing new certification you earned, or that course you took to serve your clients better.
    • Did you work with an amazing vendor recently? Feature them and their work on your page!
    • Holidays and “national pizza day” are fun to talk about too! But instead of pulling an image from Google, plan ahead and take a nice shot of pizza on your gorgeous Mahogany dining room table, or with your favorite thing to binge watch in the background.

  • The 80/20 rule
    • 80% of your posts should focus on the 3 E’s
      • They should be engaging, enlightening, and entertaining.
    • The other 20% can contain a call to action promoting your product or service.

Sharing too many sales posts will be a major turn off for your followers and they will more than likely unfollow and unlike. Remember, that most people don’t go on Facebook to shop.Blog 1 image3.jpg

Use eye catching photos of you, your employees, your storefront, and beauty shots of your product, but,

  • Never, take photos from Google and post them on your page.
  • Never, use photos featuring another vendor’s work without tagging them. Every time you do this, you’re losing the opportunity to work with them again!
    • Don’t forget to tag them on every platform! When you share a photo you posted on Instagram to Facebook, tags don’t transfer over! Take the extra step and edit your post on Facebook to include all vendors. (And remove those hashtags! They don’t work on Facebook the way they do on Instagram! Use 1-3 max!)
  • And never, pull photos or information off Pinterest without crediting the original photographer or creator. It is NOT ok to pull a photo from Pinterest and tag only @Pinterest and not the original owner.
